Frequently asked questions
Cost, what to expect and how to get started at Liberty Toastmasters in San Diego.
How much does Toastmasters cost?
At Liberty Toastmasters, joining costs a one-time $25 new member fee plus $60 every six months. Visiting as a guest is free.
Can I visit before I join?
Yes. Guests are welcome at any meeting and no RSVP is needed. Come to any Thursday meeting at 7:00 PM.
What happens at my first meeting?
The VP of Membership introduces you at the start. You can answer a Table Topics question if you'd like (it's optional), and you'll be invited to share feedback at the end. Otherwise, sit back and watch how it works.
How does Toastmasters work?
Members take turns filling meeting roles, like hosting the meeting, timing speakers or giving feedback, and give prepared speeches from Pathways, the Toastmasters education program. Every speech gets an evaluation, so you get specific feedback each time you speak.
If I join, will I be forced to give speeches?
No. You decide when, and whether, you give a speech.
Who can join?
Anyone 18 or older can join. People under 18 are welcome to visit.
How many people come to meetings?
Usually between 5 and 12 people. Because the club is small, everyone gets a chance to speak or take on a role.
How much time does it take?
As much or as little as you want. You'll get more out of it the more you put in, and regular attendance helps.
Can we bring food?
Yes, as long as we clean up after ourselves.
What kind of help is there?
Toastmasters International has online guides for almost every part of the program, and members help each other too.
